This book is a great resource for climbing coaches, but it’s also useful for anyone interested in the sport.

• Are you a coach who works with kids, teens, or adults? Do you work for a commercial program, a club, or a federation? In this book, we’ll explore the different roles and responsibilities of climbing coaches. And there are a lot of them! You’ll find plenty of interesting information in this book, but keep in mind that coaching is all about understanding and influencing human behavior.
• Or are you a parent of a young athlete who wants to learn more about coaching to better support your child? If you’re new to the subject, the lingo and concepts might be a bit overwhelming. In the past, authors struggled to bridge the gap between different target groups, but now, with advanced search tools and AI, it’s easy to find basic information on any topic. If you’re not sure where to start, I’ll use established scientific terminology as a starting point for your further research.
• Or are you a self-coached athlete who’s passionate about climbing? If you’re young at heart, hungry, curious, and open-minded, this book is for you! Regardless of where you fit into these groups, you’ll notice that I don’t draw clear distinctions between the different roles we play. At the end of the day, we’re all humans, and we transition fluidly through the roles we play in life and in coaching.
